Daya Orphanage

Introduction:

The Orphanage of DAYA was established in the year 2004 in the heart of city, Bhubaneswar, Orissa state. DAYA is a Christian based organization whose main purpose is bringing the fatherhood of God to the fatherless. The orphanage has grown steadily over the last 5 years and we have now 2 buildings - one which
houses 10 boys, and the other which houses 20 girls. The children live on site, receiving a Christ centered education, food, clothing and love.

The children in our care come from a remote tribal area where schooling and medical care were not available. Thier families have lost thier stability through disease and calamity. Now the children are enrolled in school and have not only caught up with thier peers academically, but are excelling in their studies. (Indian children in general are very studious and appreciate the chance for an education.)

We also run a small school for slum children. There are 20 children at present. Mostly the parents of these children are daily workers, alcoholic and illiterate. Every day we give these children snacks and two days a week free lunch. The majority of these children are considered as lower caste/untouchable according to Hindu caste system.
